I’ve wanted to write about this spring feeling of euphoria for years. The first time I visited Portland in the spring, I felt this incredible energetic high and I knew it was a place I wanted to live. After a long rainy winter here, there is this extra magical feeling of rebirth in the ground and in the air, of nature’s cyclical and unlimited abundance. The music of the birds singing is absolutely irresistable. The flowers begin to bloom, people begin to relax and smile, neighbors are out in their yards pulling weeds and planting seeds, the streets and businesses are filling up with laughter and enthusiasm, the warmth of the sun between cloudy break fills our hearts, and EVERYONE COMES ALIVE. I am a spring baby too, afterall, so I suppose the spring marks my new year as well.
I want to share this with you. I want to invite you to join me and the flowers with coming alive again. You probably already are by nature, so I will remind you to pause often and smell the scent of the daphnes, liliacs, cherry blossoms, azalias, roses, lillies, irises, peonies, dandelions, and daisies being born, notice the varied vibrant color all around you and let your eyes take it in, taste the first herbs of the first harvests, touch the fuzzy skin of the baby leaves, listen to the way the birds sing to each other, to the earth and to you, and breath in the refreshed oxygenated air in the forest, where the giant trees bless you with their acceptance, love and wisdom. We are part of and not separate from this gorgeous planet! Step away from your desk and your computer and be of the world, igniting the animal instinct in you!
It is time to be creative. And, by creative I mean, just be reborn. Allow yourself to be created. Allow ideas to move through you. Allow yourself to follow your desires. Allow yourself to be lost in the dream for a bit. Put your feet in the grass or get your hands in the dirt. Let go of future planning and just be here now, in this precious moment, with this precious earth, and let her know you love her. Love yourself.
